As a Virtualization Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of our VMware-based virtualization infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the reliability, availability, performance, and security of the virtualization environment, supporting business applications, and participating in strategic initiatives such as cloud migration and system modernization.
What You Will Do:
- Install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, and vCenter environments.
- Perform version upgrades, apply patches, and manage patching cycles according to best practices and security requirements.
- Monitor system performance metrics, resource utilization, and virtual machine (VM) performance.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement tuning adjustments.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting for virtualization-related issues, including connectivity problems, VM performance degradation, and hardware failures.
- Monitor resource utilization and forecast future capacity needs.
- Design and implement scalable solutions to meet growing business demands.
- Develop, implement, test, and maintain disaster recovery procedures for the virtualization environment.
- Participate in regular DR testing exercises.
- Implement and manage security configurations, including network segmentation, firewall rules, and access controls.
- Manage certificates and keystores for secure communication.
- Act as a primary point of contact for application teams regarding virtualization connectivity and performance issues.
- Interface with VMware support for problem resolution and technical guidance.
- Participate in the planning, design, and execution of migrating workloads to cloud environments.
- Contribute to initiatives involving the deployment and management of virtualization in containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Ensure seamless integration and interoperability between different virtualization platforms.
What We Expect:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in virtualization engineering, with a focus on VMware technologies.
- Proficiency in VMware vSphere and ESXi administration.
- Experience with RHEL or other Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of networking concepts and security best practices.
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Chef, Terraform) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
- Understanding of storage technologies and SAN/NAS configurations.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery solutions for virtualized environments.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., vRealize Operations, Grafana) and performance tuning.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent English is required in spoken and written communication
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
